The Pohory-list: Top 10 undrafted players in DC history

I’ve ranked the top 10 first overall picks and have named the best players selected in each first-round draft slot in the past, so today I’m going to look at the other end of the spectrum. First-round picks, especially the first overall selections, enter the league with high expectations. They are the future stars thatContinue reading “The Pohory-list: Top 10 undrafted players in DC history”

Wall to Mureșan: An all-time Wizards/Bullets first round

Following up on my Redskins and Capitals all-time first round picks, the Wizards/Bullets version will be the last. Since the Nationals have only been around for about 15 years, they only have a handful of first round picks in the team’s history, and there are many draft slots that they have never occupied. It wouldContinue reading “Wall to Mureșan: An all-time Wizards/Bullets first round”

In Memoriam: Wes Unseld

This morning, the most significant person in Bullets/Wizards franchise history died. Wes Unseld was 74, and according to family members, had been suffering from health issues, including pneumonia. Unseld was not only a star player for 13 seasons, but also the team’s head coach from 1987-1994, and as general manager from 1996-2003. The franchise’s onlyContinue reading “In Memoriam: Wes Unseld”

The Pohory-list: Top 10 coaches in city history (Part II)

Throughout Washington sports history, fans can point to the figures on the playing field that achieved great things, either individually or collectively. These players are represented by the jerseys we wear, the posters in our rooms and trading cards in our collections. Behind those great players and teams were coaches. The relationship between a coachContinue reading “The Pohory-list: Top 10 coaches in city history (Part II)”

Grading the six DC championship rings

By: Joe Pohoryles Yesterday, after the premiere of “Improbable” Part Two, the design for the Nationals’ championship rings were released. As championship rings appear to be more extravagant and flashy every year, the Nationals stayed right on trend. The flashier the rings become, the more representative they become as well. The number of diamonds, theContinue reading “Grading the six DC championship rings”

The Tenure Trials: Wizards

By: Joe Pohoryles As I continue to come up with content ideas amidst the sports-less COVID-19 pandemic, a question appeared in my mind: For each Washington team, who has played the most games/minutes/innings for the team? With just a handful of guesses, I figured I could name the correct player for all four major DCContinue reading “The Tenure Trials: Wizards”

DC Sports By The Numbers (40-49)

By: Joe Pohoryles The Washington, D.C. sports teams have seen plenty of athletes do incredible things while representing the nation’s capital. One of the most recognizable features of these athletes is the numbers they sport on their uniforms. As we forge on in these times with little going on in the sports world, I willContinue reading “DC Sports By The Numbers (40-49)”
