Chelsea sack Graham Potter - Julian Nagelsmann next?
Chelsea have sacked Graham Potter. The club announced the decision just 24 hours after their 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. Potter took over from Thomas Tuchel in September and averaged just 1.42 points-per-game in 31 games. Chelsea paid a world record €23 million to sign Potter from Brighton in September.
"On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea," co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said in a club statement. "We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome."
Chelsea announced that assistant Bruno Saltor will take over on an interims bases. "Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season," the owners wrote in a club statement. "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high."
Graham Potter sacked by Chelsea - Julian Nagelsmann next?
Media speculated on Sunday that the club could now approach Julian Nagelsmann. The 35-year-old was sacked by Bayern Munich last week and replaced with former Chelsea coach Tuchel. Transfermarkt understands that the Nagelsmann camp is open towards a move to Chelsea. On the other hand, Nagelsmann is still embroiled in a difficult divorce with his former club and could wait until the end of the season to take a new job.
